Gouache
Contemporary artwork in oils, pastels,
gouache and watercolour
On my webpages you will find a big mixture of work as it spans a long period of time.
Currently I have gone back to painting in gouache as it encourages me to be freer with brushwork and more spontaneous.
There are many seascapes, particularly from Scotland where I have been able to do a lot of on site colour studies on holiday.
Landscapes are inspired by my local area of Hampshire in the Uk and the beautiful Test Valley with its chalk streams.

Instagram sometimes shows work in progress,
my inspiration, my walks, my life, whatever I feel like posting.
Many places motivate a response to paint.
The Outer Hebrides in Scotland has inspired a lot of my work as has The New Forest in Hampshire and many coastal areas.
I want to paint lots of different things and not get entrenched on just a few subjects. Life is too short.
i am beginning to feel a lot freer to paint with more gesture and have a bit more confidence in my decisions rather than thinking about what might appeal to a buying public. My training in textile design was at a time when colour choices and styles were a lot more rigid and everything had to be painted by hand to translate to screen printing. It has been very hard to lose that discipline but I think its beginning to happen.
